The Albert Henry Barnes Collection comes from the digitized collections at the University of Washington. Barnes was a photographer who documented the people and places of western Washington during the turn of the century.

This collection contains 302 photographs, divided into 5 categories: Outings and Recreation, Tacoma, Mount Rainier National Park, Homestead and Farming, and Columbia River. This site states that the database was prepared in 1999 by UW's Libraries Special Collection staff. It appears as though they chose what they believed to be the best representative sample of his work and presented them within the five categories.

The site states that the images were scanned in grayscale using a Microteck Scanmaker 9600L, and that some image manipulation was done in order to create a clearer digital image. It is also states that the scanned images were linked to descriptive data using the UW CONTENT program. The photographs are initally viewed as thumbnails, but can be enlarged by clicking on the image. The information provided with the images includes the title, date, note, both TGM and LCSH subjects, negative number, and physical description. Also, a website link is offered for users who want to order a reproduction, inquire about permissions, or want to see information about prices. In addition, detailed digital reproduction information is offered, such as "Scanned from a photographic print using a Microtek Scanmaker 9600XL at 120 dpi in JPEG format at compression rate 6 and resized to 768x512 ppi. 3/1999."

A public audience can easily search for images within this collection. Also, with the amount of information provided for each image, scholars should be able to locate the physical photograph with great ease.
