The Chicano Art Digital Collection is a digital visual catalog created with the purpose of making Chicano art works more accessible to the general public.
The collection includes art pieces that fall under the categories "Drawings," "Graphic Arts," or "Murals. As the primary audience that this collection was created for was for people with varying levels of awareness and knowledge about Chicano art ranging form those with no prior familiarity to students and scholars of art history.
This project is part of the

The collection was scanned and photographed up to
72 d.p.i. As as is stated on the website, the quality of printing off the Web at that level is intentionally low because human eyes does not detect differences in resolution on a computer screen above 72 dots per inch. However they have higher resolution images that are taken at 600 d.p.i. and 1350 d.p.i. but are the exclusive right of the copyright holders. As such one can argue that there exists an impediment to access to these high quality images.

One of the shortcomings of the collection is that information about certain images is not available and as such are listed as unknown. However they are making an attempt to collect information about these unknown works by making a call to the community to provide background or contextual information about certain pieces. Also, in certain cases the artists themselves had chosen to remain annonymous and therefore information about the creators is not available.
